MOSCOW. (Interfax) - Moscow is concerned about steps being taken by Chisinau it says are aimed at blocking the work of the Joint Control Commission in the security zone in Transdniestria, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko.
"Ignoring the international community's opinion, Chisinau today assumed the position of blocking the Joint Control Commission's activity and is refusing to take part even in extraordinary meetings, which, according to the rules of procedure of the peacekeeping operation, are held to consider issues that will allow no delay," Yakovenko told the press on Thursday.
The Joint Control Commission has been acting in the region since 1992 as a political and military body managing the peacekeeping operation. Contingents from Russia, Moldova and Transdniestria and observers from Ukraine and the OSCE are involved in the mission.
