GAZPROM Still Providing Transnistria Cheaper Gas

According to the Transdniester Republican Bank, Transdniester's debt for gas delivered from Russia increased by 29,6 million USD in the first semester of 2006, reaching the sum of 1.193 billion USD.
Piotr Stoianov, head of the Transdniester gas agency, declared that Transdniester's debt for gas is constantly increasing. Thus, the level of payment for current consume in Transdniester constituted last year 65.3 percent, and only approx. 25% in the first trimester of 2006.

IN the same time, the Russian gas monopoly "Gazprom" continues to deliver gas to Transdniester at a special price / 60 USD per 1000 cubic meters, also providing income to the Tiraspol administration coming from gas transiting, which constituted approx. 15 million USD in the first semester of 2006.

"MEDIAPULS": Moldova's debt (3 700 000 inhabitants, without Transdniester) to "Gazprom" is of 220 million USD. Current payments by Moldovan customers reached 100 percent of the cost of the consumed gas.

Till 2006, gas from Russia was delivered to Moldova at the highest tariff from the CIS and the Baltic States - 80 USD /1000 cubic meters. In January 2006, Russia fully blocked gas supply to Moldova for 2 weeks, after increasing the tariff for the gas supplied to Moldova. Presently, Russia exports to Moldova natural gas for the price of 160 USD / 1000 cubic meters.

According to information provided by Russian and Ukrainian press, "Gazprom" intends to increase in 2007 the tariff for the gas delivered to Moldova to 200 USD / 1000 cubic meters.
