The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine, the task of which is to help these countries that want to join the EU by passing to European norms of security and border control, annoys Russia, Le Monde journal said on Friday. he article, the translation of which is placed on the site Inopressa.ru, reads that the situation worsened on March 3 when Ukraine decided to ban the import of Transndistrian goods that do not a have a Moldovan custom stamp. Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, who wants that Moldova become part of the European Union, tries in such a way to bring the existence of the ?˜black whole?? in Transdniestria to an end.

The article says that Russia??s interest in Transdniestria is determined not by geopolitical reasons only. ?It is supposed that Russian product groups have business interests in the main industrial enterprises of the region, particularly in the Rabnitsa metallurgical plant, Le Monde said.

When Romania joins the EU in 2007, the EU border will come close to Transdniestria. Russia does everything it can to maintain the deadlock over Transdniestria??s status and this strip of land to become ?˜something like the second Kaliningrad??.

From March 3 Ukraine allows on its territory only the Transdniestrian goods that are accompanied by Moldovan customs stamps. In response to this measure, the Transdniestrian authorities closed the customs posts saying Ukraine imposed ?˜an economic blockade??.

The OSCE and CE consider Transdniestrian authorities?? acts as ?˜self-blockade.
