The National Railroad Company of Moldova (CFM) has refused to compensate to the Ukrainians their longer cargo transit via Moldova in detour of Transnistria.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications has advised that negotiations with the CFM have led to nothing, ?for Moldovans have refused to charge the old tariffs that we used to pay when our trains ran along the shortest line ?? via Transnistria.

In exchange for lowering the tariffs, Ukraine promised to increase the volume of transit transportation via Moldova, which would indeed be very beneficial to the Moldovan side, whose railroads are chronically under-loaded.

The Moldovan side stated during the negotiations it had to push up the transit rate by $4-5/ton because the transit across the Moldovan territory has now become almost twice longer, and the tariff has been increased in a minimum possible proportion that barely covers the CFM??s increased production expenditures.
