Moldovan Police Officers Released From Jail |

Authorities of the breakaway republic of Transdniestria released two Moldovan policemen on Saturday after the interference of Russian officials, the Moldovan Ministry of Reintegration, which is responsible for the Transdniestrian settlement, told Itar-Tass. A group of five Moldovan policemen was detained in Tiraspol on June 14 by the unrecognised republic??s State Security Ministry. Three of them were released on Monday. The others ?? the head of the Moldovan Interior Ministry??s department for combatting organised crime, Stefan Mangir, and Bendery deputy police chief Constantine Condrea were released last night. Transdniestria??s State Security Ministry said the Moldovan policemen had been suspected of planning an abduction of people. Moldovan authorities denied these accusations. Moldovan Interior Minister Gheorghe Papuc said the detention of Moldovan policemen in Tiraspol was a ?provocation in response to the investigation of a criminal group by Moldovan police. Papuc said Moldovan police had detained four members of the group, who lived in Chisinau and Tiraspol. According to investigators, the group recruited young women for commercial sex in Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia. www.itar-tass.com
