The two employees of the Moldovan Interior Ministry (MAI), held on 15 January 2007 by the Transnistrian power-wielding forces, were released on 17 January evening, Moldova's representative in the Joint Control Commission (JCC), Ion Leahu, has said.

Lieutenant-Colonel Igor Mihailenco and Lieutenant Eugen Caraiman, both employees of the Bender police commissariat, were held on 15 January in the morning on their way to work, under charges of attempt to assassinate two Bender residents.

The MAI has described the detention of the Moldovan policemen by the Transnistrian non-constitutional structures as an illegal action and requested their unconditional release.

Over the last two years, the MAI registered about 160 cases when Moldovan policemen were held or intimidated by the Transnistrian power-wielding forces on their way to work.
