Moscow and Chisinau will resume consultations on settling the Transdniestria problem, Russian President Vladimir Putin said following a meeting with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin in Minsk on Tuesday.

The two leaders discussed options for settling the political situation in the region, he said.

"We have agreed with the president of Moldova that we should resume consultations in the near future to bring our positions nearer, especially taking into account that a lot of work has been done at the expert level," he said.

Voronin also said the two leaders had the chance to substantially discuss the organization of political negotiations on the region's problems.

"I believe these negotiations have very good prospects," Voronin said.
