OSCE calls for resuming Transdniestria talks

CHISINAU. (Interfax) - The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly calls on Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to resume negotiations on Transdniestria and supports Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenk'sproposal on setting up an international regional peacekeeping mechanism under the OSCE, reads a resolution adopted at the 14th annual session of the assembly in Washington on July 1-5.
The document urges the Moldovan and Transdniestrian authorities "to engage in confidence building measures, which could serve to restore the minimum level of mutual trust needed for further negotiations."
The assembly's members are willing to help Moldovan and Transdniestrian lawmakers "re-establish their contacts for the purpose of discussing relevant issues." It also noted "the readiness of the European Union and the United States to connect more closely to the negotiation process."
