The decision of the Russian Sanitary Service Rospotrebnadzor to exclude the alcohol production made in Moldova from sale does not affect the wines and cognacs imported from Transnistria. "The trading of wines from Transnistria goes on," Victor Bancov, deputy director of the Dubasari-based company Buket Moldavii, has stated to BASA.

The administration of the Tiraspol-controlled company hopes that "Moscow will continue to maintain the immunity of wines made in Transnistria at least until use of all stocks."
At the same time, Bancov said that the Russian embargo on wines is valid for Transnistria, too, adding that Buket Moldavii along with other enterprises based in the region stopped deliveries to Russia on March 27.

Contacted by BASA, the chairman of the Union of Wine Exporters, Gheorghe Cozub, confirmed that the wines from Transnistria are traded on the Russian market in continuation. "The difference made by Moscow between quality of wines made in Moldova and those made in Transnistria reveals the political nature of the problem," the expert underlined.

Cozub did not rule out the fact that Moscow and Tiraspol could identify a channel to deliver wines made in the secessionist region of Moldova to the Russian market.

Rospotrebnadzor head Genady Onishchenko ordered Russian importers on April 9 to withdraw all samples of alcohol production made in Moldova and Georgia from sale. An order that he issued in this regard does not stipulate the terms when the trade facilities shall stop selling this production.

According to MoldovaVin, loads with Moldovan wine production worth 10 million dollars are stationing at the border between Ukraine and Russia. Russia stopped imports of Moldovan wines on March 27, saying that "they have a low quality and endanger the health of Russian consumer."
