Russia is ready to resume removing its weapons from Transnistria provided that the Transnistrian conflict settlement process is a success, and Chisinau and Tiraspol achieve a high degree of mutual confidence, Russia's ambassador to Chisinau Nikolai Ryabov said yesterday in a TV interview.
Ryabov highlighted that Russia had never said it meant to keep its military depots in Transnistria forever. He elaborated that Russia suspended the removal of weapons in late 2003, as situation turned to be unfavorable.
Ryabov also stressed that at this point Tiraspol did not trust Chisinau, and Transnistria was relying on Russian peacekeepers to ensure it against any political, economic, or military pressure on the part on Moldova.
