Chisinau, February 8, INTERLIC. The guarantors in the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict Russia and Ukraine are in need of close coordination of their efforts in the connection with the aggravation of the situation on the Dniester, as Victor Alksnis, head of the RF State Duma delegation, visiting currently Transdniestria, has declared at a press conference in Tiraspol today. According to the Olvia press, he has noted that the role of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada is increased in the connection with the political reform in Ukraine and he has spoken out an idea of carrying out a joint meeting of Russian and Ukrainian Parliamentaries to discuss possible measures for the protection of the Transdniestrian populations rights. Victor Alksnis has designated the prevention of the further escalation of the Transdniestrian conflict as the main thing. According to him, it is planned to set up a Union of Parliamentaries from various factions under the conditional title For Peace in Transdniestria? for the protection of the rights of the Russian citizens in Transdniestria. Another important step, in his opinion, should be more active efforts in granting the Russian citizenship to Transdniestrias inhabitants. As Victor Alksnis consider, Russia should pursue a more active policy for the protections of the Transdniestrians rights, moreover that Moscow has serious geopolitical interests here. The head of the RF State Duma delegation has noted that the group must initiate an appeal of the RF State Duma to Russian President Vladimir Putin in this connection.
