MOSCOW, April 4 (UPI) -- A Transdneisntrian official has criticized the re-election of Moldovain President Vladimir Voronin, Interfax news agency reported Monday.
Transdneistria is a Russian backed region that broke away from the former Soviet republic of Moldova next to Romania following the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The region's foreign minister, Valery Litskai, warned Voronin's re-election would increase tensions with Moldova, Interfax said. "Voronin will keep taking a hard line on Transdniestria. He will continue attempts at the international level to put pressure on Transdniestria," Litskai told the news agency. "We dont expect any new potential from him. Moldova has received no new hopes itll be no better off than before." Copyright 2005 by United Press International. All Rights Reserved.
