TIRASPOL. (Interfax) - Igor Smirnov, the president of the self-proclaimed republic of Transdniestria said that elections to Transdniestria's Supreme Council will take place in late 2005, in accordance with Transdniestrian laws. "We sent our legislative acts concerning the elections to Russian and Ukrainian international organizations. We are ready to listen to their advice, but the elections will be carried out in accordance with our laws," Smirnov told a Wednesday press conference, answering a question about the OSCE's suggestions regarding the organization of democratic elections in the region.

Tiraspol will do all it can to make the elections open to all those who wish to monitor them.

"Recognizing the elections or not is up to the world community. Our task is to provide access to all those willing to monitor the elections," Smirnov said.
