The next round of negotiations set for January 26-27 will be a “chance for all the sides involved to make efforts and prove they treat the issue seriously,” US Permanent Representative to the OSCE Julie Finley told Thursday at the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, the US State Department website informs. The US is disappointed the last round of negotiations did not make any progress in the settlement of the conflict. “We did not see any progress, especially because of Transdniestria’s obstructive position,” Ambassador Finley said. The official appealed again to Russia to pull out its troops from Moldova. “Nothing would be better for the settlement process that the final withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Moldova, in line with the commitments Russia made in Istanbul in 1999,” Julie Finley told. The US is for the peaceful settlement of the conflict by respecting Moldova’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, she added. The US official asked the sides involved, especially the Transdniestrian side, to respect “the terms of the protocols agreed on at the two previous rounds in 5+2 format and to give the OSCE complete military information as soon as possible”. - Reporter.MD
