Moldova's Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev said he hopes Russia's Gazprom will not change the price for gas, currently standing at $110 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Tarlev said the price was negotiated in the talks in late March and, under an interim agreement, is to remain in effect until July 1 2006.
"We did not beg out this price, but provided arguments. We have a common business with Gazprom - the joint venture Moldovagas, in which Gazprom has a 50% stake plus one share, and Moldova only 34.7%," Tarlev said on PRO-TV television, Chisinau, on Tuesday evening

The prime minister said Moldova has been observing the schedule of payments for the past three years, but there are, what he called, "historical debts," amounting to some $120 million.

Transdniestria's debts are calculated separately. They currently stand at about $1 billion and continue increasing, he said.

"We hope Transdniestria will settle its debt. But, while negotiating the Transdniestrian problem within Moldova's territorial integrity, we are prepared to consider other options, as well," he said.

Tarlev said in remarks about Gazprom's possible decision to increase the price for gas, that Moldova could raise the price of gas transit, which now is $2.5 per 100 kilometers.
