CHISINAU. (Interfax) - Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin proposed a draft law on the status of Transdniestria to parliament on Friday.
"Not just a formal majority is needed to adopt this document, but a consensus of all political forces," Voronin said.
"Moldova is not going to tolerantly watch as Transdniestria becomes a small coin in big political games," he said. "The time of repression and conflicts in Moldova is over and it is necessary to achieve a peaceful political settlement of the conflict," he said.
"The final solution of the Transdniestrian problem will be made possible only after the democratization of the region, democratic elections and the election of new democratic authorities. We are ready for a dialog with the current Tiraspol leadership, but only on problems of democratization and demilitarization," he said.
