Administrative and territorially the republic is divided into 5 administrative regions and two cities of republican subordination. According to the administrative and territorial system it's unitary.

Transdniestria is mostly flat, with rare hollows. Nearly 80% of the land is chernozem (black earth).

Vegetation is classic steppe, in flood-lands - grassland or meadow. The soils are mostly ploughed. Forests occupy 10% of Transdniestria. Climate is temperately continental, the quantity of the atmospheric precipitates shows that the region is situated in an area of insufficient moistening. Winters are short and mild (average temperature for January is minus 3 - 9 degrees centigrade). Spring is early, with intensive warming up of soil and air. Transdniestria summers are long and hot (average temperature of June is +21), followed by a warm, enduring autumn/fall.
